The United Kingdom's "Data Protection Act"

Dear Client, 

Thank you very much for making an on line purchase with us.  We appreciate your business and hope that you will be  completely satisfied with the experience! 

Your assistance in completing the ordering process is  needed. Please review the following information. It will  explain how you can help us. 

As The Supply Source is a business that specializes in "mail order" we have certain requirements that must be met according to "VISA International and/or Master Card" fraud protection guidelines. One of these requirements is to ship parcels only to the verified billing address. This is the same address that your credit card's issuing bank has on record for you. The very same address where you receive your billing statement each month. By following this mandate we, the merchant, as well as "VISA International and/or Master Card" and you and your issuing bank are assured that the merchandise being purchased reaches the card holder and no one else. 

In the U.S., Canada, most of the European Union and most other countries, when we ship a parcel we simply contact the issuing bank by phone or fax and verify the address prior to shipment. However, in the U.K. we are unable to do this. The U.K. has enacted "The Data Protection Act". This law prevents any financial institution from sharing or divulging in any way, information about their consumer clients. Since this measure is in place we are unable to verify (with your bank) any details that help us to follow the necessary fraud protection guidelines. Due to this situation we ask that you assist us in the following way: 

If you would, please fax a copy of your credit card billing statement to our order processing area.

Please be aware that we need only the portion of the statement showing your account number, name and billing address. We do NOT wish to view any information that you consider confidential such as credit limit, amount of balance owed if any, or purchases transacted with other merchants. 

We apologize for this inconvenience. Laws such as The Data Protection act serve to shelter the consumer from unwanted and possibly damaging intrusions into their personal credit information. As such it is an excellent provision of the law. Fraud protection guidelines in this case are adding an extra step in the ordering process but are an excellent provision, protecting both the consumer and the merchant.

Upon receipt of your fax we will process and ship your purchase. The information you provide will be entered as a permanent part of your client record. Any future orders will not need to be subject to this process as the necessary information will already be on file.
